History & team

Twenty-five years, one accountable team.

SMA Energy & Infra (formerly Mittal Machines Private Limited) has grown from a general EPC contractor in 2000 into a four-sector specialist, without ever splitting delivery across disconnected departments. Here's how that happened, and how the team is built today.

Milestones

From general contractor to four-sector specialist.

2000

Incorporated as an EPC contractor

SMA begins life as Mittal Machines Private Limited, taking on general EPC works across Uttarakhand.

2012–13

Entered the solar sector

First 5.5 MW of solar capacity installed, the beginning of what is now SMA's largest vertical.

2017

Entered the water sector

Pumping schemes mark SMA's first water-sector contracts, laying the groundwork for later DBO work.

2019

HV substation business added

SMA begins taking on 33/11 kV and higher-voltage substation works, moving beyond LV electrification.

2021–22

Hill-terrain solar, and an infrastructure vertical

The 25.9 MWp Maa Jwalpa Solar Park at Satpuli is commissioned, built on 35°–45° slopes, alongside the launch of SMA's civil infrastructure vertical.

2025–26

Utility scale, JV lead partner

The 63 MW solar plant at Una (HP) and the 132 kV Laksar substation augmentation for PTCUL, SMA's first role as JV lead partner, mark the current chapter.

Who we are

Difficult sites, turned into dependable infrastructure.

SMA Energy & Infra Private Limited has delivered 500+ projects for utilities, government agencies and leading EPC contractors across Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, all from its base in Dehradun.

The thread running through 25 years of work is terrain. SMA built the 25.9 MWp Maa Jwalpa Solar Park at Satpuli and a 10 MWp plant in Pauri Garhwal on slopes of 35°–45°, projects most contractors would not take on. That same comfort with hill-terrain execution now underpins a 63 MW solar plant under construction at Una, Himachal Pradesh, and a 132 kV substation augmentation for PTCUL at Laksar.

How the team is built

One team, four functions, zero hand-off gaps.

SMA deliberately runs projects through a single accountable team rather than siloed departments: the same structure, repeated on every site, from a rooftop array to a 132 kV substation.

01

Engineering & design

Site survey, design & drawings, value engineering and cost optimisation before a single trench is dug.

02

Procurement & QA

Approved-OEM sourcing and quality inspection, run to the ISO 9001:2015 system across every site.

03

Site execution

Experienced site teams already in place across Uttarakhand, Himachal and Punjab, built for hill terrain.

04

Testing, commissioning & O&M

Pre-commissioning, grid sync and long-term operations: the same team that built it keeps it running.

SMA is structured around this single-team model rather than named department heads: one accountable team follows a project from engineering through O&M, which is what keeps hand-offs and delays out of the process. Leadership introductions happen directly on a project call; reach out and we'll connect you with the right people for your sector.
